2012: GP3 runner-up after final thriller
Daniel Abt competes for the Lotus GP team in the GP3 Series and finishes the championship as the runner-up in a dramatic finale. After having left a brilliant impression by setting best times in track tests during the winter, Daniel Abt competes in the GP3 Series for the 2010 and 2011 championship winning team Lotus GP. During the course of the season the driver from the Allgäu attracts attention as well, finishing 13 out of 16 races in the top ten. Seven times he mounts the podium – taking the top spot on two occasions: at Spa and at Monza. In addition, he clinches a pole position in his home race at Hockenheim.
2011: Move up into F3 Euro Series
After finishing the German ATS Formula 3 Cup as the runner-up Daniel Abt moves up into the international Formula 3 Euro Series – and experiences a season that could well be described as a “character-building” one.
After the previous years had virtually been walkovers for him three podium places remain the best results in the Euro Series. In some cases, lack of racing luck prevent better results but on many occasions Abt, like his Volkswagen brand colleagues, are simply lacking speed. Consequently, the racer who is by far the youngest one in the field has no choice but to settle for some minor successes that deserve respect nonetheless.
2010: Runner-up in ATS Formula 3 Cup
In 2010 Daniel Abt celebrates the next major success in his career: He finishes the ATS Formula 3 Cup as the runner-up. In the highly competitive formula racing series the rookie has to admit defeat to the far more experienced Tom Dillmann with only a narrow margin. A technical defect in the final race frustrates his chances of possibly clinching the title. The season culminates in Abt’s first run at the F3 Grand Prix in Macau where he immediately finishes the first race with a third place, against the world’s best-in-class competitors. Last but not least, Abt is recognised as the winner of the annual classification of the Deutsche Post Speed Academy for the second time in a row.2009: Perfect feat as youngest racer
In the 2009 season, Daniel Abt dominantly clinches the ADAC Formula Masters title. In his second year of competing in this series he remains the youngest racer in the field, plus the quickest one. After scoring eight victories, seven pole positions and a total of ten podiums he wraps up the season on the penultimate race weekend. “This year has almost been a bit of a dream,” he says. This is actually an understatement as one accolade after the other is added to the title. Abt wins the annual classification of the Speed Academy, is recognised as “Motorsport Talent of the Year” and as youth sportsman of the year by the town of Kempten.2008: Premiere in the formula car
On moving into formula racing in the 2008 season, Daniel Abt quickly earns the respect of others and attracts attention by delivering strong results. At the end of the year, his statistics reflect two second places, a third place and a pole position as well as a place in the top ten of the overall standings. There is no doubt that the youngest driver in the ADAC Formula Masters field has mastered his year of learning with aplomb. 2008 is also the year that marks the beginning of his collaboration with another valuable partner as Abt is accepted as a candidate by the Deutsche Post Speed Academy. “That helped me a great deal. I was able to learn a lot off the track as well.”
Whether in its role as exclusive logistician for Formula One and the DTM, as advertising partner or promoter of the Deutsche Post Speed Academy: Deutsche Post AG is heavily engaged in motorsport. No wonder, because perfection, speed and teamwork are as important to the group as they are for racers, teams and racing series.

Numerous fascinating race simulations and the Gran Turismo that has been selling in the range of millions have been contributing to PlayStation’s march of triumph. Meanwhile, the third generation of consoles has made its way into living rooms around the globe. Daniel Abt is by far not the only racer to make his dry runs on a PlayStation.
